“everything I create has a purpose and I hope every design and piece of work can find its home.”
Growing up watching Maa turn every meal into a festival made me fall in love with cooking. Having at least one meal together as a family was a tradition that helped me relax, be present and make memories that I cherish to this day. Spending most of the lockdown alone, made a lot of us realise how much we missed being around the people we love. Home of Matkewalli stemmed from that hunger of being with my family; to encapsulate the same feeling I felt being home through a range of dinnerware that’s fun, playful and makes kids want to come down to the table and enjoy a meal.
Started in 2021 ‘Creating Togetherness’ as my graduate collection has now extended to include new colours, textures and more refined forms. The highlight in the past year has been having Maa use the ware, bringing my two worlds together and celebrating food, our family and good design.
Matkewalli is a home of design, stories and functional ware. Every bowl is made with intention, that has a story and that hopes to be part of your story, making memories over a meal.
Our Story
Meet Parneet
I am a recent graduate and Artist in Residence from De Montfort University, graduating in Design Crafts and specialising in homeware using ceramics and 3D printing.
My practice involves using 2D and 3D CAD to make moulds for slip casting, glaze science and using oxides to stain the clay. Practicing ceramics for the past four years has been a joy ride. It is what relaxes her and keeps me going.
I like telling stories. Specialising in ceramics, my work has always been very personal; creating objects that people can interact with and make memories with has been a major source of inspiration. I primarily work with slip-casting and glazing, adding textures to my pieces, making them distinctive. I hopes as I work on my collections, in the process I am able to inspire people to pause, communicate with them my story and that of my pieces, celebrating every moment. Functional ceramics for a modern home.
